Focus of Future Developmenta. Monitoring Research
The natural resources protected by the Experimental Stations under ESRI’s management are relatively intact, making them extremely valuable assets for Taiwan’s low-, medium-, and high-altitude regions. In the future, ESRI’s researchers will continue the following projects to monitor ecological change in the Wushihkeng, Sinanshan and Hehuanshan areas:- On-going flora and fauna bio-inventory studies and the monitoring of populations of key species;
- The recording of water quality analysis, carbon dioxide density measurement and determination, micrometeorological observations, and other environmental factors;
- The establishment of permanent sample plots and the study of plant association structure;
- The creation of basic and dynamic change data for ecosystems as the basis for natural resource management and conservation planning.
b. Study of Captive Wild Animals
ESRI’s researchers will conduct relevant studies on wild animals that are temporarily or permanently sheltered at the Experimental Stations, while also putting forward feasible methods for their release back into the wild or other solutions for their welfare.
c. Information Services
The Experimental Stations will begin providing ecological education and interpretation services, and conservation information services for each of the areas under their supervision. In addition to raising public awareness of conservation issues, researchers aim to help people understand the importance of Taiwan’s ecosystems.
d. Academic Exchange
Researchers at the Low, Medium and High Altitude Experimental Stations aim to take part in collaborative biological research on the resources at the Stations in cooperation with universities and other academic research organizations in Taiwan and abroad.
